I heart diapers

Img_4483

I've always heard it's easier to potty train your second child, especially if you have two boys.  The idea is that the younger one watches the older one using the potty and wants to be a big boy and immediately gets the hang of it.  So what's wrong with my family?

Until this weekend, Grant has shown no interest in going in the potty.  I've bribed him with Thomas and Mickey drawers.  I've offered candy if he poops in the potty.  Thanks to Chris we now even have a potty training anthem.  All of this has not mattered a smidge.  Then all of a sudden on Friday, Grant decided he was going to wear undies all day.  Wow.  I was shocked.  He came and told me every time he had to tee-tee, and he only had one accident all day long.  It's true, he still didn't poop in the toilet, but we were making progress.

Fast forward to Sunday.  Grant and Grayson were playing Indians all morning, which of course involves being completely naked.  This worked out great for potty training purposes, because Grant could just take off running when he had to go and he didn't have to ask for help.  By afternoon he finally got tired of being nekky, and put on Mickey undies.  I think you know what comes next...

I was sewing in the den when I heard him tiptoe up in the hallway.  He stuck just his head in the door and said, "Mommy, I got poopy."  Oh no!

Oh yes.  The poor guy had not only done it in his undies, he had tried to take care of it himself.  You can imagine what I found in his bedroom... and in the hall... and the bathroom...  I think we'll hold off on potty training just a little while longer.  I'm just not quite ready for it yet.

I don´t blame you. That sounds like a real mess! Dorian has very little interest in the potty . . . I heard it helps if the child picks out their own potty, but Dorian just says, "No, I no like." and when we found a really cute bear one and I asked if he was ready to start going to the bathroom, he looked at it and said, "not in THAT!" :S Looks like we´ll both have diapers for a little longer!

You poor thing! I've been there and know what a stinky mess it is!

OH NO!!!!

Poor guy. Poor you!!

Yeah, I'm a big fan of diapers till 5!!:)

Hmmm, not even The Poopsmith Song has worked? Well, there goes my future master potty training plan up in smoke!

Not in the bedroom
Not on the wall
No more surprises on the lightswitch down the hall........

We had a friend who would simply cut off the soiled underpants and throw them away. Well, they were rich. :-)

I always said I would have had a ton more children ... if only I did not have to potty train them LOL...I remember those days :)

Don't fret over it.. he will train when he is ready!

DeeDee, I like my pediatrician's take on things. He said he's never seen a kid at high school graduation in diapers. I try to remind myself of that when I get judgemental looks from other moms. :)

Other parents are the WORST! Don't you listen to them (or me).

Ultimately, it's all in Grant's court, anyway. He's got one foot into potty training, and the other will come. Besides, the REALLY smart kids always run the show, anyway, right? wink wink
