A New Twist on Bedtime Stories

Img_4681

A big part of our bedtime routine is stories.  Usually I read Grant a picture book, and we read a chapter or two of a big book for Grayson.  On my last trip to the library, though, I picked up a few easy readers for Grayson, and he has done great with them.  So for the last few nights, he reads Grant his story (usually with an encore), then we read his chapters, then Grant "reads" whatever book Grayson read to him.  I love that Grayson is actually interested in reading now.  It seems like it was a long time coming... he had me worried a little bit.  Something tells me Grant will be learning early just to keep up with big bubba.

This is great. Our little one is definitely inspired to do/ learn everything that her big sister does.

Ah. I miss bedtime stories.

My almost-five-year-old hasn't shown any interest in reading (her big sister was writing before reading), but just this week she's taken a big leap. Sometimes I think that because she has three readers in the house, why should she learn?

Love Grant's face in this shot. :)

It's so heartwarming to see a little brother idolizing big brother. I noticed you have Treasure Island on your booklist. Does Grant and Grayson like it? I remembered being terrified of Treasure Island story. I didn't read it again properly til I was 14. For some reason it still gives me the creeps. o.0

Gloria, Grayson loved Treasure Island, although a lot of what happened was a little over his head. I had to sort of summarize after every chapter we read to make sure he understood. It was funny, though, the part that bothered him most was at the end when Ben Gunn gambled and drank away his share of the treasure. He worried about that for days!
