Wanna hear a Who?
We took the boys to see Horton Hears a Who last night. I was shocked. Hollywood actually made a Dr. Seuss book into a movie that is appropriate for children! Can you believe it? Even with all the former SNL stars voicing characters, there were no off color remarks that leave parents cringing. They managed to make a funny, interesting animated film and keep it kindergarten.
So, anyway, if you can still hear me from way up here on my soapbox, I'll share the Horton Hears a Who craft we made this morning. It's so easy, it barely qualifies as a craft, really, but they haven't left the boys hands since we made them. All we did was raid our craft shelf for green pipe cleaners, big purple puff balls, and tiny bits of cotton ball. We placed the puff in the middle of our pipe cleaner, which we then folded in half, and twisted the two sides together. We tore off a teeny bit of the cotton ball and glued it to the top of the puff ball, and TA-DA! A Who-clover.
Oh yeah, I forgot they're chenille stems now, not pipe cleaners. How 1980's of me.

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. I've heard mixed reviews and have been debating on whether to see it. We'll probably go now!

How providential that we just "happened" to pick up an elephant at that yard sale! I musta had my "granny radar" on!

Well, I'm glad you called them "pipe cleaners" because I haven't heard of the other things! I LOVE the craft! My kids will love it too! What a great idea!

Mom, I thought the same thing! It would have been tragic if we'd only had one Horton in the house after the movie.
Mama Grizzly, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's silly to have a fancy name for pipe cleaners! I hope your kids enjoy their clovers!

Chenille stems????? That is just about the silliest thing I have ever heard! Sometimes political correctness can go toooo far!!! Isn't it great when the simplest ideas are winners? I am interested in which Disney movies have incurred your irritation with off colour remarks? Perhaps I am immune to such things? I can't think of any immediately.....

I HATED the live Grinch. I wouldn't watch the live Cat in the Hat on a bet. But I took the girls to see Horton opening week, and they really liked it. But as we were leaving the theater, I asked them, "What's your favorite movie?" and the answer came back "Ratatouille!" without hesitation. Horton was fine, but not wonderful, like Ratatouille.
And I guess I'll have to stop cleaning my pipes with those chenille dealies. Cute craft!

Arizaphale, it isn't Disney movies I have a gripe with. It's usually Dreamworks movies. To my knowledge we haven't watched a Dreamworks animated film since Shrek. What is the purpose of putting words like a** and sex jokes into kids' movies? There is a website that we look at that tells in detail all the questionable points in a movie, and we always look there before taking Grayson to see a show.

well done with the Horton gear. I can't wait to start reading Zach Dr. Seuss books!

Chris, Beware Dr. Seuss' Sleep Book! The boys love it, but it is like reading a verrrry long tongue-twister. My mouth feels tired just thinking about it!
