About Face
Right now, I am in love with Grayson's artwork. He got some compliments a couple of weeks ago from a non-family member, and this just boosted his confidence through the roof. Since then, he has begun paying attention to detail, and wants to become "a real artist, like Mommy" *smile, tear.* I want to encourage him in this as much as possible, because there is nothing worse than feeling the creative itch, but not knowing how to scratch it.
I was never one to like those step-by-step drawing books when I was a kid, but after reading this post, I decided to let Grayson try one out for himself.
He absolutely loved it. He spent hours yesterday drawing face after face. This is the only Ed Emberley book at our library, but I will be scouring the shelves of the bookstores looking for more!

I love his artwork, too! Especially the expressions on the faces, those are just great. :D My favorite is the little purple guy in the middle there.
You know, my mom used to transfer our drawings onto broadcloth and then embroider them to make Christmas ornaments and framed pictures. They were great gifts. You might want to start doing that with a few of his masterpieces. I know I plan to once Dorian moves past the scribble stage (albeit careful scribbling with a big story behind it).

Next thing you know, he'll be writing a children book...in his own blog.
Must runs in the family. LOL

Hi Jessie;
(I found you thru the blog lurvy list-Genesis, Expat Mom)
You certainly seem to have a budding artist...he looks like he is very serious about it too!
Not sure if this will help you find some books, but my girlfriend has a online bookstore and has some 'learn to draw books'...

Hope this helps in your search for books. If you come to my blog you can find a link to Blue Thistle books and her regular blog is (Confessions from the Rubber Room.)
Happy drawing!

Wow, he's doing great! That looks like a fun book - I really want to get one like that for Abby to try.

Yes, the Small Boy loves to draw. It's a great thing. His are all anime style or graffiti or something. I have tried to suggest he draw something other than a cartoon face or a monster with a laser gun...but no luck as yet. Hope Grayson is a little more adventurous!
