The Candle of Joy
Sunday night, we lit the second candle of Advent, the candle of joy. We spent time remembering what the candle of waiting represented. We talked again of how long Mary and Joseph waited for the baby to be born. Then we talked about how Grayson and Grant brought joy to all our family and friends when they were born. Before I could make the next point, Grayson blurted out, "Yeah, but Jesus brought Joy to the WHOLE WORLD!" And there it was. He already understood the significance of the second candle.
We read part of the Christmas story from Luke 2, then imagined the joy of Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds the night the angels filled the sky. Then we prayed together, and thanked God for sending His son to bring the joy of salvation into our lives.
Here is our nativity so far. The creche came from a rummage sale, but the figures were painted by my mom when I was a little girl.

This is awesome. I love that he "gets it!" I'm so gonna do this when I have kiddos...

Your boys faces are priceless. The teaching they are receiving is something they will carry with them forever. Thanks for sharing~

I love your nativity scene - particularly since it incorporates hand-me-downs from your Mom. Those are great shots of Grant & Grayson!

Thanks, Chris. I think hand-me-downs are some of the most special things we have. And as for the shots of the boys, Grayson's such a poser he's always easy to capture. Grant is another matter! A low-light picture of him that isn't a big blur is a rare thing! Good thing he's a pyro like his dad :)

What beautiful photos. The candlelight makes them look angelic.

You have a great camera, mine won´t take photos by candlelight! I really, really like what you are teaching your children. Grayson obviously gets it already, which is wonderful. Good job! :D

Ohhhhh..... how precious. I love the advent candles... and I have a Nativity just like that... Did your mom take the classes from Max Terry too? I cannot remember who all was there... but we must have painted them together. :)
Maybe I should get mine out and pass it on to Jenifer ... or maybe just keep them here for the grandbabies to play with at MommaDee's house.
You are a treasure!
Keep on Keeping on!
