Boredom buster

Do you ever have a week that just drags on forever, and every day seems to last two?  We're having one right now. The mornings are great, because we do school; we clean house; we play.  It's the afternoons that have been a doozy.  So yesterday we were bored AGAIN, and Kayla asked if we could bake something.  My first thought was bread, because that's something everyone can help with, but I didn't have enough flour.  Then I thought maybe an apple pie would be fun, but I didn't have enough apples.  What we came up with was a chocolate pie.

I had just enough of everything to pull it off, and between the measuring, the mixing, and the cooking, everyone got to participate.  By the time it went into the oven,  the kids had forgotten they were bored and went off to play and chase each other around the house.  I usually don't let them run in the house, but at least it kept their minds off the pie while it was cooling!

OK, chocolate pie sounds toooooo good! Creative way to spend an afternoon.

didya save me a bite?

That pie looks great! We love to bake around here, too. Sure kills a lot of time!

Uh oh...must look away. MUST LOOK AWAY. Oh no, heading leaving seats now. Oh no, trudging to the fridge now. Fridge is open...

OH NO.

And oh no, I just realized that "heading" was not deleted before "leaving". So oh no, looks like you'll have to do that yourself.

That's what you get for beffudling me with pies, you know.

Wow, meringue and all! YOU'RE SHAMING ME, JESSIE! ha ha

Baking is not time wasted. Measuring = math skills, patience, and exactitude. Order is critical. And, it's a perfect example of effort leading to great rewards. My baby brother loved to bake, and now he's a big-time chef (who makes huge messes in my kitchen, but that's another story). YUM!

Don't let the picture fool you! It was some very flat meringue and the chocolate was a little runny, but MAN did it taste good! I've sworn off baking now, though, cause I'm officially back in my fat jeans! Bummer.
