Aloha!

Kailani has started a new meme called Aloha Friday, and all you have to do to participate is post a question on your blog on Friday and sign her Mr. Linky.  It can be any question you like, about anything you like.  So, here's my question:

What's your very favorite childhood memory of fall?

Mine is one year, my mom let my brother and I each have one friend spend the night close to Halloween.  That night we got to each make our own pizzas, decorate our own jack-o-lantern, and decorate cupcakes.  I still remember how I felt at the end of the night.  It was very special indeed.

So, please answer my question, and hop on over to Kailani's to play along!

No special one moment. Fall was just my favorite time all through childhood. The smell of leaves, of people building fires. The coolness in the air and the perfect football game either at the stadium or in the yard.
Decorating for Halloween, knowing that Thanksgiving was around the corner. Mom cooking Pot Roast. Homecoming games. The way the cabin smelled in the fall.
I could go on.
But the coolest thing about fall?

Your birthday!

My mom would probably disagree, but mine is of raking leaves. We had a ton of trees in our yard and it would get carpeted in gorgeous leaves every autumn... I loved raking and playing in them every Saturday!

We don't have Fall in the Philippines. I've never experienced Trick or Treating when I was young but my son is luckier than I am because he was able to go trick or treating since he was only one year old.

Jumping into massive piles of dried leaves when we still lived up north. After we moved to Florida, the leaves that did come off the trees were all damp and moldy and potentially harbored snakes! Good question for a Friday - have a good weekend!

We didn't have fall in the So. Cal desert and I wasn't allowed to celebrate Halloween. So my next door neighbor staged my very own Halloween for me. She let me use her Halloween costume, then had me pretend to knock on a series of doors as she loaded me up with treats from her mom's pantry. It was the best Halloween I've ever had.

My favorite fall memory would have to be making sugar cookies every year close to Halloween. We would frost them orange and then add candy corn eyes and Black Cakemate Gel expressions! I now do this with my kids.

This is a lame answer but I really don't have any. Growing up in Hawaii, Fall didn't hold a significant meaning except that school was starting. No cooler weather, no changing of the seasons, no colorful leaves. :-(

Thanks for playing along!

My favorite fall memory would be carving pumpkins with my dad, and making apple and pumpkin pies with my mom.

that memory was around ur bday right?? - anyway... mine would have to include the running and jumping into piles of Sycamore tree leaves on 8th street.

Ha, I just put up a very similar question before I popped over here. :D

My favorite memory of fall is going out and picking blackberries to earn money, with my mom and sisters. It was hard, hot and sticky work. We wore jeans and leather or jean jackets to protect us from the thorns and we went prepared . . . with a rake to pull down high branches laden with berries, clippers to cut our way into the middle of the bush and ice cream buckets to tie around our waists so we could pick really fast with both hands, just tossing the berries down into the bucket. :D We earned $3-5 per pound and could usually get up to 10 lbs in a couple of hours. But best of all, we could all just talk as we worked, without having the silly fights moms and daughters have.

My favorite memories involve riding to my football games as a peewee with my dad in his old blue Chevy. Just me and him. Windows down. Cool air blowing. Nervous stomach anticipating the opponent. Watching him drive and chew on the big knuckle on his index finger while deep in thought. Man I wanted to be him and most of all i wanted to please him with my on the field performance!!!

I'm so late with this . . . playing catch in the road with my brothers and my dad. Watching the '49ers with the drapes drawn, blankets thrown over the windows for extra darkness, and chairs crowding the TV. Being able to go outside to play without heat exhaustion after a long, hot summer. The first thunderstorm -- sitting on my dad's pickup hood watching the storm approach.

Great question, Jessie!
